Abstract: This study aimed at investigating the achievement in the Thai pronunciation of the students at Prince of Songkla University, Surat Thani Campus, before and after being taught by the pronunciation skill exercises. It also studied the students’ satisfaction regarding the pronunciation skill exercises using the problem-based learning method. The subjects of the study were 47 first year Bio-Production students who took the Communication Skills course in the first semester of the academic year 2003. The research instruments consisted of achievement tests in Thai pronunciation, Thai language pronunciation skill exercises, and a satisfaction test. The achievement test with an index level of 1.0, was used to test the students’ pronunciation. The Thai language pronunciation skill exercises were for the students’ pronunciation practice. They consisted of eight lessons and each lesson contained seven sets of initial consonants, cluster consonants and vowels. As for the satisfaction test, it was used to gauge the students’ response to the pronunciation skill exercises. The reliability of the values and usefulness of the pronunciation exercises was 0.983, and the skill development exercises using the problem-based learning method was 0.8989. For data analysis, the t-test was used to compare the differences between the students’ achievements in Thai pronunciation before and after the experiment, the mean and the standard deviation were used to illustrate the satisfaction . The pre-test and post-test results showed that the total scores of the achievement tests in the pronunciation of initial consonants [r-] , [th-] , [p-] , [ph-] , [ph-] , [c-] , [ch-] , [ŋ-] , [?-] , and [h-] , of initial cluster consonants [-r] , [-l] , and [-w] , and of vowels - [o] and - [ɔ ] after being taught were statistically significant at 0.01.The pronunciation total scores of the consonant [th-] after being taught were statistically significant at 0.05, except for the initial consonant [l-] , [t-] , and , [ch-].The total pronunciation scores of initial consonants [l-] , [t-] , and [ch-] after being taught were not significantly different. As for the result of the satisfaction test, it was found that all students were highly satisfied with the Thai language pronunciation skill exercises by using the problem-based learning method.
